Please report your weed observations and/or upload your data to Calflora. It?s easy, and critical to regional planning. Instructions are at http://www.baedn.org/reporting.html. Prioritizing populations for eradication is targeted by BAEDN staff for May 21. Our system relies on the Calflora database, and we can only prioritize what?s in the database. Thanks to those who've entered observations already. Please enter your observations by May 19th to ensure inclusion in 2010 planning efforts! We are close to a draft list of prioritized early detection & rapid response species list. Feedback from county agricultural commissioners and Weed Management Area leaders will be solicited soon to verify limited distribution of targeted species. We are anticipating a request for bids and qualifications for weed eradication projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area in early summer. An official announcement will be made on the BAEDN website, partners listserve (sign-on at http://mail.baedn.org/mailman/listinfo/partners_baedn.org), and relevant partner forums, please stay tuned. Contacts for veritable weed contractors would be appreciated as well. We also may be in need of short term botanist contracts to verify status of prioritized weed populations. Contacts for reputable regional botanists would also be appreciated. Thanks for your support! The list and background document is attached for your review. Please do not circulate these drafts. At this point they are for generating feedback only. This list combines quantitative measures of distribution and invasiveness with supplemental expert opinion. Non-native species of limited occurrence in the nine county San Francisco Bay Area that are known to be invasive based on consulted sources will be prioritized for detection and eradication through the Bay Area Early Detection Network?s (BAEDN) system of Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR). The list contains 3 categories: invasive species of limited occurrence in the Bay Area, invasive species of California not present in the Bay Area, and widespread and/or noninvasive species of the Bay Area. The limited occurrence invasive species will be prioritized for EDRR; the 0 Bay Area occurrence species could comprise part of an EDRR ?watchlist? for the Bay Area; and the widespread and noninvasive species will not be considered for EDRR priorities, although these species may continue to be managed in ongoing control and/or local extirpation/eradication efforts. We would like your input by May 19th on the limited and unreported species for the Bay Area. Specifically: Are any of the limited reported species common in your county or region? Do you know of occurrences of species without reports? Please annotate the weed list spreadsheet in the ?Reviewer comments? column if either of these questions can be answered affirmatively. Additionally, if you can enter or upload weed occurrence records for these species into Calflora we can better prioritize species for treatment and detection. BAEDN will be prioritizing populations next Friday on May 21. Our system relies on the Calflora database, and we can only prioritize what?s in the database. Please enter your observations by May 19th to ensure inclusion in 2010 planning efforts! Reporting is easy, and critical to regional planning. Instructions are at http://www.baedn.org/reporting.html. Thanks to those who have contributed records! I apologize for the short notice, it?s been busy Spring, and we are excited to get our fieldwork started ASAP. I greatly appreciate your efforts and contributions to the Bay Area Early Detection Network! Thanks for your support!
